February 2012 President's Message
The Pool Deck Concrete Project drawings are complete and they are ready to go out for bid. We are looking for volunteers to review the bids. Please contact Rick Peterson or Jack Winchester, the Concrete Project Committee Chairman. Jack was a Purchasing Manager at Lockheed so we are leveraging his expertise. After 40 some years, we have concrete around the pool that is in bad shape. A few Pool Lights around the Pool do not work and conduit under the concrete is corroded or collapsed. As a result, to replace the Pool Lights we need to replace the light, wiring, conduit and concrete above the conduit. This project will not start until next fall after the closing of the Pool in the fall.

The Arbor at the Pool Entry is being replaced. Frankly, the large overhead arbor beams were rotted and needed to be replaced. That project is about ½ complete but will be ready for the Pool opening this spring. This Arbor is going to wrap around the building to help shade the office space. Again several volunteers are building this Arbor. Thanks very much!

Well we kicked off the Seniors Group Meeting on Monday January 9th @ 10am in the Lounge. We had 20 seniors turn out for the first meeting. They had a lot of wonderful ideas. On Jan. 20th, we had our second meeting. The turnout was lighter but the seniors want to meet every Friday at 10:00 am. So, come one come all to the Friday Seniors Meetings at 10:00 am in the lounge. Sara Seipert, the Activities Director and I will host the meetings. We will try to vary the topics at the meetings. But one thing is for sure the Coffee will be hot, the conversation will be lively and we will have fun!

We will soon be hiring Office Aids and Lifeguards for the up and coming swim season. So, keep an eye on the Club Managers message for details. As you know, the Club is happy to support a local Boy Scout Troop and a Girl Scout Troop that are very active. The Boy Scout Blue and Gold Dinner is coming up. The Girls Scout annual fundraiser Cookie Drive is coming up soon and save me one of those Thin Mints! Both the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts support or help to sponsor the events around the club. Please look at the Santa Teresa Library Friends flyer in the Newsletter this month. They are holding a Book Sale of Used and New Books at the Library. All of this money goes directly to the Library Children’s Programs at this Library. This group works very hard to make our Library and our Community a better place to live. Contact Claire Cano for details.

In closing, thanks for visiting our Club Web Site. We are adding content and perhaps a facelift sometime this year or visit us on Facebook. As always, your Board of Directors can be reached by email at president@ranchosantateresa.org or directors@ranchosantateresa.org

Sincerely Yours,

Norman Collier

February 2012 Club Manager's Corner
As I mentioned in the January Newsletter the Board of Directors approved the removal and replacement of the Poolside entrance arbor. The Board also asked that I extend the arbor to the end of the office windows on the south side of the building to offer more shade to the offices during the hot summer months. The demo was completed during the week of January 9th and we are now starting the replacement side of things. I would like to thank Chuck Corona, Pete Callaghan, Evan Fields, Steve Sanchez and Mike Borg for all of their hard work and volunteering their time helping me with the demo and the first section of replacement. I would like to mention now that once we are finished with installing all of the new lumber I will not prime and paint it right away. I made this mistake with the new fire pit arbor as I didn’t allow the wood to completely dry out before painting it. By not allowing the wood to fully dry it kept bleeding through the new paint forcing Pete and I to re-sand and re-paint it again later that year.

As a reminder to those young adults in our neighborhood who are looking for a 2012 Spring/Summer part-time job, Rancho will be accepting applications for 2012 Office Aides (14 yrs and older) and Lifeguards (16 yrs and older) during the month of February. Applications can be picked up in the Club Office or downloaded from our web site. Finally, all new and returning Staff must attend ‘Orientation Day’ on Saturday, March 31st from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. This is a mandatory training day.

The Club will officially open on Monday, April 9th as this week is ‘Spring Break’ week for the local schools. The main pool and wading pools will be open from 12:00 noon to 7:00 PM. Starting Monday, April 15th the Club will be open every weekend Saturday & Sundays only until Memorial Day weekend at which time we will be open full time 7 days a week for the summer. As a reminder the Club Office hours are from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Mon - Fri until the end of May. The Adult pool and Spa will continue to be open daily until 10:00 PM. However we want to remind everyone that the Adult and Spa Pools are for adults over the age of 17. We would appreciate for those adults who use the pool facilities to cover them after using to contain the energy cost. If you have lost or forgotten the gate code you will need to stop by the Club Office to get the new gate code.
